Fandom Snowflake Challenge 2018: Day 2

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you've received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
One of my favorite fandom memories is from the 2009 Yuletide Fic Exchange.
That year, the fandom I matched on was The Giver, a YA novel by Lois Lowry. I first read it when I was in fifth grade or so; it was one of the first dystopias I read, and it really stuck with me. It was great to revisit it via fanfiction.
The fic ended up being a bit over 7k words, which felt rather long, for me (I still tend to write shorter works). As always, I was a bit nervous to see if my recipient would like it.
And they did! My recipient left a long and lovely comment in which they talked about how much the book had meant to them when they were younger, and all the things they'd liked about my fic. I was thrilled to know that I'd done a good job, and my fic also got quite a few other nice comments, as well. Eight years later, that fic is still one of my favorites among all the fanfics I've ever written.
